  1. I love the application. . .and use it just about every day.

  2. What happens to MobileCast once firmware 2 comes out? Are you registered for including mobilecast in the app store/developing for the new firmware.

I currently (obviously) run a jailbroken ipod touch and this is the only app I just could not do without if and when I go to firmware 2 (which I think is a huge step forward from any of the previous updates - I’m still on 1.1.1).

I’m happy to pay, I nearly use mobilecast daily and is essential and works brilliantly.

    Cheers hopefully

  3. Simon: thats a very good question. As it stands you’ll need to jailbreak the 2.0 firmware to use mobilecast. I haven’t looked into it much yet, but I doubt we’ll be able to offer mobilecast (in its current form) via the app store as we use a lot of undocumented api’s that are not part of the official SDK.
I don’t know how strict apple will be about the use of undocumented api’s, so it might be worth giving it a shot and submitting mobilecast as an official app.
Given that the MC source is open source I think we’ll continue to offer the app for free even if its accepted into the apple app store.

  4. :-( as i wont be able to try firmware2.0 but :-) you replied and will keep it free. I really hope you get this in the app’ store or if not someone does something as good. Wish apple would loosen up about these kind of things - mobilcast shold be in firmware 2 as a new app as far i am concerned - its that good - why apple dont have a wireless podcast facility i just dont know - why they think anyone with a iPHONE would want to be tied to itunes is mad

  5. Hello I have MobileCast on my Iphone. It request Feed URL ? and OPML URL ? do i need to fill both of these and how do i find them for lets say NPR talk of the nation podcast.

  6. Ken: I would recommend that you check out the latest beta (2.2.4) release of mobile cast. Details on how to install it are available here:
    http://blog.podgrove.com/2008/03/16/mobilecast-beta-source-for-installerapp/

Then go to http://www.podgrove.com/ & create an account for yourself, then go to the search page, enter “NPR talk of the nation” locate the feed in the results page & click the subscribe button.

Now go back to mobilecast (2.2.4) go into settings, enter your podgrove userid (email) and password. hit save, this will bring you back to the main screen, then go to settings again & press the “sync now” button next to where it says http://www.podgrove.com

If you choose not to use podgrove you can simply add the xml feed for the podcast in under Feed URL:, OMPL is a format that allows to you subscribe to multiple podcasts by entering a single url.. i.e. an opml file is a collection of rss feeds.

  7. Me again ;-)

Firmware 2 nearly here and App store open for business and no sign of any wireless podcast downloader :-(

Question - you say no chance of MobileCast working on firmware 2 but with your dev knowledge do you reckon someone will be able to do it, or do I have to wait until Apple sort this BIG oversight?

    Cheers

PS - is development of MobileCast ground to a halt? 2.2.4 beta works great for me but just wondered?

  8. I firmly believe that MobileCast is the top application on Installer. I use this app every single day. And when I say every single day, I mean every bit of it.

This is one of those killer apps that you must have. Now I’ve purchased the new iPhone to replace the old, jailbroken one and I find myself craving for MobileCast to be part of the App Store.

I believe that this app is so good that I would be happy to pay $5 or even $10 for it. I strongly believe that those of us who use it on a daily basis feel the same way.

Please, please look into bringing MobileCast to the App store. Charge for it if you will, but please take the time to port it to the official SDK. If nothing else, it will be better than ever.

  9. agree with OC 100%. Mobilecast is my number 1 app’. Doesn’t get as much praise in the forums as it should. I have bought v2 firmware for my touch but not upgrading till mc or likewise app works on jailbroken v2 firmware or apple make itunes app able to download podcasts (why they don’t do this already really gets my back up).

  10. I’m trying to register as well but that workaround you mentioned isn’t working for me :( I fill in the email addy and password and it register but nothing comes up. I tried both FF and IE.

  11. Please port this app for jailbroken 2.0
I want this app back so bad.
    :(

  12. I tried to install MobileCast on a friend’s 1st generation iPhone with jailbroken firmware 2.0 using the installer. The pre-firmware-2.0 MobileCast could not be installed. MobileCast is the top third party application for the iPhone. As long as MobileCast does not work under firmware 2.0 I will not update the firmware. Like others I will be happy to pay 5$ for it :-) and ported to the official SDK and the App Store I’d be surprised if the developper wouldn’t make quite a bunch of bucks of it. I hope nobody steels the great idea behind MobileCast to its developper.
