What a difference a source makes.

In just 24 little hours (to paraphrase a great song) - we’ve had 70 odd downloads of the latest 2.2.4 Beta!.

Thats a pretty significant bump from the 10-20 per day that we were seeing when folks had to manually grab the latest mobilecast drop & ssh it over to their phones.

As always we appreciate your feedback & contributions. I’d like to start a vote to select a new icon for mobilecast very soon.

Can anyone make a recommendation on how we should use to manage/run the vote?

It’d be nice if there was a simple rails or php app that I could throw up on podgrove. Of course letting a 3rd party site run the vote would be even better (as it would be less work to setup). Please post suggestions in the comments. Once we complete a vote & select a new Icon I’d like to do a 2.2.4 stable release.

    Hello,

    Dude I just want to tell you I love your program and its been fun watching how you change it over time, it gets better and better. I’m using an Iphone on T-mos because of my contract and AT&T burnt me once, NOT AGAIN :(. I live in a place that can’t get internet and never will, I use the phone as the only way I can get podcasts.

    Just a question or suggestion, it would be nice if when a refresh on the feeds list happens if some how a way to see that an update could be seen, like a number of new feeds or something? Or a way to see what files you have downloaded but deleted?..

    Another thing that would be cool would be auto update and download at a time you can set?

    and is there a user guide for Mobilecast?

    Thanks and keep up the good work, some of use really need it.

    I installed Mobilecast beta but cant get it to sync with PodGrove! Do i need to have Ruby installed also?

    Please help!!!

  3. Hey Kevin,
    You don’t need to install ruby or anything.
    All you need to do is create an account on podgrove.com, click on the link in your confirmation email. Then in the mobilecast settings page enter your podgrove username (email address) & password. Then click Save. This will return you to the main mobilecast screen, now if you go back into settings you should be able to sync with podgrove.
    If you’ve already done that double & triple check that the password you’ve entered into mobilecast matches the one you used on podgrove. You can confirm that podgrove is using the correct password by turning on the debug logs (available on the settings page). The logs themselves go to /tmp/mc.log.

    Glad you like mobilecast & thanks for your kind words. To answer your question/suggestion, the latest beta now puts blue dots next to feeds that have new items (after refresh). We’re working on a pretty major ui overhaul so we’ll be sure to take your suggestions into consideration.
    Auto-update & download is an item that we’ve had on our wish list for quite a while, unfortunately I haven’t found a reliaible way of implementing it yet.
    There isn’t a mobilecast user guide (yet)… I guess we could start one over on the wiki on our google code page.

  5. What is the “download” button do? - I’ve pressed it and see the green stream over my selection. I also see that the left buttons on the downloaded items turns blue. I had assumed that the selection was saved on my iphone for later use. However, having tried to play a selection while away from my wifi resulted in nothing. Is this a future feature or something I am not using correctly?

    That exactly what the download button is for - downloading items for playback when your without wifi. What version of mobilecast are you running? I would recommend that you try the 2.2.4 beta if you aren’t already using it.
    Does this problem happen with every feed & item that you try downloading?
    If its just an issue with one feed I’d appreciate it if you could share a link to that feed so I can reproduce (and maybe fix the issue).

    PS - In general for usage questions, I would recommend posting to the mobilecast google group[1] as you might get a faster response from other folks if I’m not about/online.
