MobileCast BETA source for Installer.App
update: 3/17/08 added images.
Staying up to date with the latest & greatest development snapshots of MobileCast just got a whole lot easier. You no longer need to roll your sleeves up & get dirty with ssh as we now have our very own repository which you can add as a source to installer.app on your iphone/itouch.
So how do you add it?
Well, its really very easy, just do this:
1. On a jailbroken device fire up installer.app
2. Select “Sources” on the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen.
3. Click “Edit” on the top right of the screen.
4. The “Add” button now appears on the top left, so click it.
5. This will now present a dialog box where you should enter http://repo.podgrove.com/iphone.xml & then click OK. Install.app will then refresh its sources, you should now click the “Done” button on the top right to exit edit mode.
Now to install the MobileCast 2.2.4 development beta, click “Install” on the bottom navbar. You can now select MobileCast under the multimedia category. Please note that the 2.2.4 development version is the one that says “MobileCast BETA…” in its description. The other MobileCast entry is the last stable release - 2.2.3. We tend to update the development version of mobilecast a couple of times each week so you might find it easier to locate the MobileCast BETA via the “Recent Packages” category.

If you encounter any issues please post in the comments of this entry or on the mobilecast google group.

Hey,
Trying to install this on 1.1.4 firmware. Both the stable and demo releases crash during installation. I’d really like this feature though, and I think the idea of the program is kickass, so if there’s anything I can do (a way of getting a crash log et cetera) please contact me.
Cheers,
Adam
Hey Adam,
Did you check to see that you’ve got enough space on the partition where you’ve got /Applications ? The default partition is really really small, so you can only install one or two 3rd party apps before you run out of space. You probably just need to move your /Applications folder to the media partition and sym-link to it:

If that doesn’t help please post over on the mobilecast google group & we’ll do our best to get you sorted.

PS - I would recommend that you go with the 2.2.4 Beta release.
trying to downloand the source but it doesnt show up on the installer.
Any ideas?
thx
Kevin: thats odd. Did you add the source to the installer.app? eg start installer.app, then select sources from the button bar on the bottom, then press the edit button on the top-right of the screen. Then press the add button on the top-left. That should bring up an “Add Source” dialog where you should enter http://repo.podgrove.com/iphone.xml & click ok. Then you’ll want to refresh your sources & you should see the 2.2.4 beta in the list of available apps.
Same here, intalled source but MobileCast did not show up
I just removed mobilecast.app along with the podgrove source, rebooted my phone. Then I fired up the installer.app re-added the source, hit refresh on the sources page, then when I go to the install page & select the multimedia category “MobileCast 2.2.4 BETA” is listed (were up to svn drop 122 at the moment) . This is on my 1.1.3 iphone jailbroken with the ziphone method.
What firmware are you on?
Did you double check that you’ve got the url for the podgrove source entered correctly? I world recommend removing the source, rebooting your device then re-adding it & refreshing the sources as I did above.
Please let us know if this doesn’t resolve the problem for you.
Hello!
I am a 1.1.4 user and installed your 2.2.4 beta version. But after I downloaded the video, click play, it show : “This movie could not be played”. What happen??
Thanks!

Frankie: could you post a link to the feed for the video that is causing this problem?
Did this video work with any previous versions of mobilecast?

I hv tried previous version 2.2.3, also not work. Thanks!!!
F
thanks, I’ll take a look… btw does this work if you add this feed to the ipod.app?
cheers,

hmmm… looks like the video is a divx, thats probably the problem. I don’t think the iphone or itouch has the codecs available to playback divx movies.
–Frank
I can view the videos in ipodtouch by transferring from itunes…
Anyway, thanks for your effort!
f
ok, so the codec must exist then, I’ll do a bit more investigation.
